We’ve received 80% of our $25,000 goal - WOW!

Help Sisters raise the remaining 20%. Donate today.

The summer months are filled with family fun and vacations for many people, while our community at Sisters continues to yearn for nutritious, low-cost meals; free feminine hygiene items and infant supplies, including diapers; a clean and safe restroom; and a place to perform dignified barter work.

Summer time is typically a time of low giving, and we’re asking you, our committed partners, to support our community during these months. Our goal is to raise $25,000 in individual, business and faith community donations that will provide 300-350 meals a day to very low income individuals and families over the summer.

Here’s how you can keep the cornbread comin’ this summer:

Make a donation in May, June, or July. It will be matched 2:1 by our generous Operation Cornbread Matching Grant. All individual, business and faith community donations in May, June and July will be matched!

Become a Sustaining Member! We currently have 360 monthly donors who give to Sisters as Sustaining Members. Please join this pool of generous donors by signing up for a monthly deduction from your bank account or credit card. Our goal is to add 30 new Sustaining Members to our program this summer; 15 generous new monthly donors have signed up since May 1, taking us halfway to our goal! Contact Sisters’ Development Assistant at 503-222-5694 ext 12 or (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to sign up!

Update: Sit/Lie Enforcement Suspended After Being Ruled Unconstitutional Again!

Portland Police Chief Rosie Sizer has suspended enforcement of Sit/Lie after the law was found unconstitutional last week. Read the official memorandum on the Street Roots blog.

A Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge found that Portland’s controversial Sidewalk Obstructions Ordinance, or Sit/Lie, unconstitutionally exceeds the city’s authority, as it conflicts with and is preempted by state law. Sisters Wins Oregon Food Bank Award

Sisters Of The Road has been named a 2009 Oregon Food Bank Agency Excellence Award winner in the category of Excellence in Client Services. The award comes with a $500 prize to support the 300-350 warm, nutritious meals served in our Cafe each day.

The Oregon Food Bank (OFB) provides our Cafe with much of the food we need to cook up hundreds of balanced meals each day. We are thrilled that OFB recognizes the strength of Sisters’ philosophies of gentle personalism and nonviolence, and their importance in excellent customer service. Thank you Oregon Food Bank!
