Take Action Now to Save Vital Funding

The health of our community is in peril, and Portland's Bureau of Housing and Community Development is at risk of huge cuts to its budget and services. Cuts would leave our community without crucial support and would cause an even greater epidemic of poverty and homelessness. Is this what we choose? Street Roots has launched a campaign to preserve these critical services and programs.

We believe it's crucial to fully fund the Bureau of Housing and Community Development's proposed budget, including the $6.7 million in one-time General Fund dollars, to preserve vital services and housing for people in crisis.

Some city leaders believe there is only $2 million to draw from. We believe we need to prioritize these vital services and find the money.

Read the whole petition and sign it here, and e-mail City Hall here. Thank you for your action!

Springtime Brings Fresh Local Vegetables to Sisters

Sisters Of The Road believes that in order to create a truly just world, we must be attentive to the sources of the foods we eat. Local, organic food is good for our local environment and economy, and the best way to ensure the freshest meals for our customers.

Sisters is fortunate to be partnering with Sauvie Island Organics (SIO), which began donating food to our Cafe in 2008. They provide weekly deliveries of 150 to 200 pounds of produce to us through spring, summer and early fall. Donating produce reduces farm waste while contributing to the community.

SIO provides area residents with seasonal foods through their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and sales to local area restaurants. SIO prides itself both on its food, as well as participating in the greater effort toward social justice through a CSA scholarship program, donations to our Cafe, and living wages for their employees.

CSA shares from SIO are still available! Members purchase a 30 week share in advance, delivered weekly from May to December. For more information please click here, call their office at (503) 621-6921 or email siorganics@aol.com.
