Our Executive Director Nominated for Another Award
Let's Help Her Win!

Monica Beemer, Sisters' Executive Director, has been nominated to win an Humanitarian Angel Award from the red dress society. The Angel Awards celebrate passionate and facilitating leaders of social causes. Please visit the site and vote for Monica to win! You can place your vote by giving a high rating and good comment at the bottom of the page. Thanks for voting—we want everyone to know how great a place Sisters Of The Road is - and how big a role Monica plays in making this a great place!

Sisters Stands for Economic Human Rights

On January 20th, Sisters and other WRAP allies converged in San Francisco to demand our federal government come through on promises made to create more affordable housing and decriminalize homelessness and poverty. If you haven't already checked out our Homelessness Ends With A Home webpage - now's the time! The protest and pre-protest adventures are documented there and you'll also find links to some great videos and to Street Roots’ blog. A comprehensive list of online coverage of the WRAP event can be found here.

During the election season, Sisters also actively campaigned in support of Measures 66 and 67.  We partnered with Vote Yes for Oregon to get the word out about these crucial measures - and we all won! Thank you to all the Sisters folks that voted yes in support of schools and other social services and for tax fairness.

Help Sisters and Have Fun -
We Our Supporters!

February 3rd - 28th, the Waterstone Gallery - located at 424 NW 12th Avenue in Portland - will be holding a fundraiser for Sisters! The artists of the Waterstone Gallery will be spreading the love by offering a number of 3” x 3” artworks for sale, created especially for this event. 50% of the proceeds will be donated to Sisters! Gallery hours are 12-6pm Weds-Sat, and Sun 12-4pm. There will be a Preview Reception today, Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 5-9 pm; and a First Thursday Reception Thursday, February 4, 2010, 6-9pm. This is a great opportunity to support a local business, local artists, and your favorite local non-profit all at the same time! Big thanks to Greg Wilbur and all of the Waterstone Gallery artists for always giving it up for our community!

And what about that Kissing Booth? The famous (or not so famous) Gambini will be stationed outside of Anka Gallery at 325 NW 6th Avenue ready with plenty of kisses for Sisters supporters. Show your love for Sisters and get a little in return, this Thursday, February 4th, starting around 7:30pm.

We are so grateful to our community members that organize small events to support Sisters' work.  People have held art sales, garage sales, music shows, and even turned their home into a restaurant for a night for Sisters! If you'd like to find out more about holding your own event, please email Sisters' Development Associates Erinne Goodell or Heather Dorfman or call them at (503) 222-5694.
