~ A personal letter from Director Monica Beemer ~

We wanted to send each of you a thank you for all you do and have done over the many years for our community at Sisters Of The Road. Sisters is transformational love in action – and your support is part of this transforming love.

As our supporters, we feel it’s important to let you know how the current state of the union is affecting Sisters.  We realize the current economy has many people confused and concerned. So far, we are seeing more need and fewer resources and we are very concerned about what this means for our community and for SistersWe need your help!

During this tumultuous time, we ask that you keep our community in mind for your love and support. Nonviolence and gentle-personalism, the core philosophies of Sisters Of The Road, are always powerful and are needed now more than ever.  We will build a community based in relationship, love, and respect and we will stand up for everyone’s right to dignity and safety. The greatest thing we can do right now is to work hard to ensure all our neighbors are cared for.

These times emphasize to us the needs of those who are stuck out in the cold, day and night. We know that nationally 40% of people experiencing homelessness have a job. But they cannot possibly get by and meet all of their basic needs, not to mention the basic needs of their families, with a minimum wage or part-time job or after being laid off. We are not talking luxuries, we are talking food, shelter, healthcare, safety and dignity. We believe these are the rights of every individual and family.

As always, and perhaps now more than ever, we need and are grateful for your support. We cannot do the vital work we do without you.

During this Matching Grant Challenge, new donors will be matched one and a half times and all donors are matched 50 cents per dollar donated. The catch is, to receive the new donor match, Sisters must receive at least $30,000 in gifts from new donors by midnight on December 31.  Please tell your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and/or family about Sisters and ask them to consider a donation. And please consider giving your usual generous gift, or maybe even an extra special gift this year – we can really, really use your help this Winter at Sisters Of The Road - Thank you! Together we can build the beloved community and the world house of Gandhi and King’s dreams!

As our donors, we also want you to know that we have ensured that any reserves we have are insured as fully as possible to protect your support and our community.

Thank you again to each of you for all you do – please join us for lunch and community in the Cafe sometime soon!
