Martin Luther King, Jr. Day March

image

This coming Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 19th Sisters invites you to join us in beginning to celebrate our 30th year honoring the work of the Poor People’s Campaign.

We will be marching from Sisters to St. Mary’s Academy (1615 SW 5th Ave) and along the way taking peaceful actions to call attention to economic injustice and unfairness at our local and state level. This is a permitted march.

Please join us for the march if able, or at the venue. Here are the details:

On Monday January 19th, 2008 at 2pm we will begin gathering at Sisters (133 NW 6th Ave). There will be some snacks before the march. At 3pm, the march will leave. If you don’t want to march, feel free to meet us over at St. Mary’s Academy around 3:30pm for our program.

If you have any questions about the event, please contact Devin at 503-222-5694 ext. 16 or email Devin @ sistersoftheroad.org.

Join us for a very special show in honor of beloved performer and Sisters’ dear friend Utah Phillips who passed away in May. The show will be headlined by his long-time friend and musical partner Rosalie Sorrels, and hosted by his sons Brendan and Duncan with help from Utah’s close friends Mark Ross and Ben Weaver.

Other great performers will include Kate Power and Steve Einhorn, Hanz Araki and friends, Anne Weiss, Andrew Calhoun, and Tom May and friends.

Tickets went on sale Dec. 15: $28 advance and $30 on the day of the show. Also, Todd Mylet of Portland Fret Works is making another beautiful, one-of-a-kind guitar for our annual guitar raffle, and Billy Oskay’s Big Red Studio will also be part of the raffle!

New Sisters’ donors in November and December were matched 1:1 by The Rose E. Tucker Charitable Trust and The Collins Foundation, and all donors were matched 50 cents on each dollar through the generosity of a group of individuals and businesses.

Although the match is over, there is still a great need. We did not meet our overall goals for November and December, and we still need your help. Click here to support Sisters Of The Road and the vital work we do all year long. Thank you!

Although we met our new donor match, we haven't yet met our overall holiday goals. Please help Sisters start the year off right!

Sisters’ meal coupons can be given as a positive response to panhandling; we sell them for $2 and they are good for a meal and a beverage at Sisters.
