POSITION PURPOSE: The Development Director is responsible for the strategic oversight of all planning, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive and strategic fund development program (annual and longer term) that generates revenues from a diverse base to support the mission, vision and programs of Sisters Of The Road.  This position ensures the Development Operating Team has the tools it needs to succeed in all fundraising goals.  The Development Program at Sisters includes all revenue development activities, donor information management, financial administration and fiscal reporting for all funding sources, messaging and public relations and marketing & publicity for Sisters’ Research Project and book.  The Development Director is the staff liaison to the Community Development Committee of the Board of Directors and is a member of the Administration Operating Team.  This position helps ensure that the Development Team upholds the philosophy and integrity of Sisters Of The Road in the community through all interactions and in all materials.

EQUIPMENT USED: Constituent database (SAGE), word processing (Word), front page, and Excel.

3. Strong knowledge of principles, ethics and practices of successful fundraising, including long-term strategy, analysis and evaluation. 
4. Minimum three years experience in leadership in charitable fund development
5. Demonstrated success in securing major and annual gifts from foundations and corporations
6. Demonstrated success in meeting annual fund goals, development management, grant writing, sponsorships and special events
7. Demonstrated success in working as a member of a team and developing effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and donors
8. Demonstrated track record with respect to detail orientation and accuracy
9. Computer literacy and competency with electronic donor tracking systems
10. Demonstrated success in successfully soliciting and securing major gifts from individuals
11. Ability to lead multiple long- and short-term projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines; ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work and support the work of others; ability to assess, make decisions and solve problems effectively and creatively
12. Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills to effectively work with a variety of people; ability to communicate clearly in person and in writing

PRIMARY TASKS
• Plans, directs and implements a comprehensive, multi-year fund development program that generates individual donors, foundation, corporate and other forms of support.  Monitor progress toward achieving all goals and objectives; modify strategy with team and assign activities as needed.  Work with the Administration Team to ensure that development objectives and activities support the organizations strategic goals.  Ensures follow-through on current strategies and anticipates major tasks and deadlines. Assesses needs, and solicits and works with outside professional consultants to support activities and progress of the development program as needed.  (15%)
• Meet and develop relationship with Sisters’ donors. Leads strategies and research to identify, prioritize, cultivate, solicit, recognize and steward all donors and prospects. Schedules meetings with Executive Director and donors as needed. (20%)
• Lead development of annual grant schedules and monthly grants meeting to monitor progress and develop strategy.  Builds and sustains relationships with current, new and potential grant-giving organizations. Prepare grant proposals and review grant writing for quality and accuracy. (10%)
• Leadership on business/corporation relationship development and sponsorships for all events. (10%)
• Supervise the Development Manager, supporting them in ensuring they and the Development Operating Team has all information and tools needed to fulfill the development goals and objectives within the philosophical framework of Sisters. (10%)
• Manages direct mail campaigns, including the annual Matching Grant Challenge and New Donor Match. (10%)
• Lead staff for the Community Development Council of the Board and Board fundraising efforts. (5%)
• Member of the monthly Communications Team. Works with staff and board to ensure strong communications across all programs to strengthen overall effectiveness of the organization and all fundraising efforts. In collaboration with staff, gather stories and statistics that demonstrate the organization’s work and effectiveness. Represents Sisters at public events, conferences, workshops and media events. Public speaking as needed. (10%)
• Prepares annual development plan to corresponding budget outlining revenue and expenses; monitors progress against goals and produces monthly reports to Board of Directors and Admin. Team.  (10%)
