Poor People’s Economic Human Rights CampaignAnnouncement: Sisters Of The Road is one of over 70 member organizations of the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign (PPEHRC). PPEHRC includes organizations across the country that are committed to securing economic human rights - including food, housing, education, and livable wage jobs - for all people. These rights are outlined in articles 19, 23, 25, and 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by The United Nations in 1948. http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html PPEHRC’s Mission Statement: The Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign is committed to unite the poor across color lines as the leadership base for a broad movement to abolish poverty. We work to accomplish this through advancing economic human rights as named in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, such as the rights to food, housing, health, education, communication and a living wage job. For more info visit: http://www.economichumanrights.org On July 15, 2006, PPEHRC held a Truth Commission in Cleveland, Ohio. This was an opportunity for people from all over The United States to share their stories of economic human rights abuses and for Truth Commissioners from all over the world to hear. The second day of the event was dedicated to the importance of art and culture in social movements where many poets, musicians, and artists performed and shared their insights. The following was a day of action where attendees marched in support of economic human rights for all people. The event concluded with attendees participating in a leadership school taught by PPEHRC’s educational arm, The University of The Poor - http://www.universityofthepoor.org Sisters’ former community organizer, Patrick Nolen, former associate director, Kate Cox, and systemic change program manager, Devin DiBernardo did not attend the leadership school but were able to attend the first three days of the event and were excited to make connections with other organizations and individuals across the country doing important work. Sisters is excited to be part of a movement that unites all people in securing economic human rights for everyone! Last updated on Jul 28, 2009 at 06:33 PM |
