DARCELLE BREAKS GROUND ON SISTERS OF THE ROAD’S EXPANSION FAT TUESDAY

WHAT: Sisters Of The Road is thrilled to announce that we will break ground on construction of the new Personalist Center.  There will be gumbo, Mardi Gras paraphernalia and music; all are welcome to this free event.

WHEN: February 20, 2007, Fat Tuesday, 3:30-5:30

WHERE: The event will be held in the future Personalist Center, located adjacent to the café at 137 NW Sixth Ave., cross street is Davis.

WHO: Portland’s celebrated female impersonator and Old Town/Chinatown cornerstone Darcelle will swing the hammer at the ground-breaking.

WHY:  The Center will open in mid-2007 with a new indoor waiting area, a revamped mail and hygiene center, and an expanded barter program.  It represents the first expansion of the café since 1986, when Sisters converted an adjacent store front into seating for 29. 

ABOUT SISTERS OF THE ROAD:  Founded in 1979, Sisters Of The Road uses non-violence to support community driven solutions to the calamities of homelessness and poverty. Sisters’ café is open to everyone, serving low cost, hot, nutritious meals. Sisters also provides job training, support to parents and children, and innovative solutions to the issues surrounding poverty and homelessness through self and community advocacy.
