Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. - Barack Obama

WRAP’s DEMANDS

On Housing
  1. Restore all federal affordable housing funding to 1978 levels.
  2. Stop the demolition or conversion of ANY publicly funded units until federal law guarantees 1 for 1 replacement at existing affordability rates.
  3. Adequately fund operations of existing public housing.

On Civil Rights

  1. Stop police and business zone programs that criminalize people experiencing homelessness and poverty, people of color, and people with disabilities.
  2. Call for the Dept. of Justice to investigate discriminatory police enforcement that targets marginalized community members.
  3. Ensure the more than 914,000 homeless children in our public schools are able to stay at their “home school” and are fully supported to learn and thrive.
  4. Stop all questions regarding immigration status when people seek housing, healthcare, emergency shelter or services.

Homelessness Ends With A Home - WRAP Action January 20th, 2010

West Coast Housing Advocates
Took a Stand for Justice!

January 20th, 2010, Sisters and other WRAP allies converged in San Francisco to demand our federal government come through on promises made to create more affordable housing and decriminalize homelessness and poverty. The protest and pre-protest adventures are documented in videos here and here and on Street Roots’ blog. A comprehensive list of online coverage of the WRAP event can be found here.

You can still show your solidarity and sign the petition for a people’s bailout!

Our friends and allies worked hard on the road to San Francisco! In Ashland, they campaigned in support of Measures 66 & 67.

Back on the road again - our travelers encountered a blizzard. But nothing could stop them from heading to San Francisco!

image

And finally, they made it! To celebrate, folks from all over the West Coast danced for social justice!

Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can’t ride you unless your back is bent. - Martin Luther King, Jr.
