Join us in celebrating Sisters' new home!

Sisters of the Road Groundbreaking Block Party will be on Friday, Sept. 9th from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Complimentary food provided by Meals on Us and entertainment by the one and only Poison Waters

We're throwing a massive celebration and we want you there!

Event Details:

What: Sisters of the Road Groundbreaking Block Party

Date: Saturday, September 9th

Time: 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Location: NW Davis between NW 3rd and NW 4th Ave.

Join us to celebrate a new era of growth at Sisters. As we renovate our new home, we are taking a moment to appreciate how far we’ve come.

“Buying a building is no easy feat and each year the building sat vacant, it aged rapidly. Sisters of the Road is taking a bold step to finally breathe new life into the House of Louie, bringing with them their own rich history. Bringing together the stories of Sisters of the Road and the House of Louie captures the spirit and resilience of historic Chinatown.”

- Suenn Ho, principal and urban designer at RESOLVE Architecture + Planning.”

There will be food courtesy of Meals on Us. The one and only Poison Waters (Hostess at Darcelle XV) will be our emcee along with other local drag performers and queer artists, including BinKyee Bellflower, Pluto, Cruz Daniels, and Jeremy Grice. Local community partners will have tables at the event, including Milk Crate Kitchen, Ground Score Association, the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, and Rose Haven

Partnering with Portland/Old Town icons like Poison Waters is especially significant. Darcelle (Walter Cole) supported Sisters of the Road throughout his lifetime, gracing the groundbreaking ceremony for our cafe's expansion in 2007, as well as hosting our 40th-anniversary fundraiser.

Throughout its history, Old Town has provided refuge for those uprooted. Successive waves of immigrants, including Black, Japanese, Irish, Russian Jewish, Greek, Chinese, and Italian communities have called Old Town their home and cultural center.

We are proud to be a part of Old Town Chinatown’s history these last 43-plus years, and feel equally grateful to have the chance to deepen our roots only two blocks away from our original home. We hope this party serves as a joyous opportunity to reconnect, share a meal, and honor our differences.

We also need your help with providing everyone with the hospitality they deserve. Here’s what we still need for our party:

  • Bottled Water

  • Seltzer/Soda

  • Body Wipes

  • Mini Flashlights that utilize AA or AAA batteries

  • Liquid Hand Sanitizer (not gel)

Please drop supplies on Saturday, Sept. 9th at 5 p.m. during our block party at NW Davis between NW 3rd and NW 4th Ave.
